A Strong, Modern Approach to Healthcare Construction
The medical construction industry is continually changing and highly regulated, requiring your project team to stay proficient in current standards as well as be innovative and solution driven. A strong, modern approach to healthcare construction includes several key elements and Merit delivers these through the Team-Build method:
Evidence-based design
Research and understanding of how to best support core care functions and goals
Innovation, collaboration and value engineering
Sustainability
A long-term plan to support your facility over its lifecycle
The Team-Build approach recognizes that all members of the team should be present from the beginning and to the very end of a project. This allows the benefit of the General Contractor to share how early design decisions might impact the budget or construction schedule, which is so key to the successful construction of any medical facility. The designer and builder are actively collaborating to minimize errors and omissions in the design and to provide the most effective solutions. This collaboration ultimately translates into a higher quality project for the owner as well as a fast-tracked project.
Team-Build creates transparent communication environments not because people say what everyone wants to hear but because they say what everyone needs to hear. Through clear communication, the budget is defined early on, and it becomes the driver for key decisions for the entire project.
Maintaining or exceeding the construction schedule is paramount for a successful healthcare project. Team-Build construction involves managing hundreds of timelines that need to coordinate in unison. Team-Build creates opportunities for the owner to contemplate major design decisions, ask questions, get real-time feedback from the designer and the builder and make proactive decisions that can impact schedule goals. All key stakeholders are involved and engaged from the very beginning of the process. Avoiding taking steps backward is going to lead to better, faster, and more cost-effective results. The Team-Build system is highly adaptive and responsive during construction as well. Big decisions can be evaluated throughout without the added cost and time delays created by the change order process due to design oversight or gaps in plans and specifications so often seen in design-bid-build delivery model.
This involvement gives the owner a lasting sense of pride in their project. The Team-Build process empowers the owner with the ability to hand-select pre-qualified design consultants and subcontractors. This avoids the all-too-common circumstance of 'being stuck with the low bidder' who may not be adequately qualified or the best fit for the project. All bids and pricing are transparent to the owner so that the owner is informed about costs as well as potential alternatives.
