Merit Construction along with Team Build partners Andy Pflueger of AHBL Structural Engineering Division, BCRA Design Architect Lorraine Glynn and Heid Kihlman, Jeff McInnis of McInnis Civil Engineering and Land Planning, Danard Electric, Patriot Fire Protection, Tacoma Plumbing, and Universal Refrigeration designed and constructed a nearly 10,000 square foot Enhanced Services Facility in Lakewood, Washington for one of these private organizations, and the our team is in the design phase of a second facility.
The recently completed structure is a single-story slab on grade and wood framed building. The building consists of a commercial kitchen, sixteen bedrooms including two anti-ligature bedrooms, standard bathrooms, ADA and anti-ligature bathrooms, a large dinning and dayroom area, laundry facility, activities rooms, nurses’ hub, and office and conference room spaces. The grounds include winding sidewalks, lawn areas surrounded by planter beds including a variety of plants, and a small gazebo for outdoor gathering.

Team-Build
When looking to construct, renovate or expand a building, one of the first questions to address should be which project process to utilize. Consideration of potential design, estimation of costs, opportunities for cost savings (value engineering), along with realistic project and permitting timelines are vital to meeting budget requirements, project expectations and providing a successful experience. The two processes to take into consideration are Team-Build, (similar to Design Build) and Design-Bid-Build.
Since opening in 1957, Merit has prioritized working as a team. We have always felt that the better relationship we have with the design team, the better product we are able to deliver to our client. Our Team-Build process was implemented because we knew that if we could get involved at the earliest point, and work alongside architects, our Owners would be far better served. When we start the project as a team, we can understand the goals and budget of a build and do what is most efficient from the onset. We can manage the entire design and construction process for you through site selection and acquisition to final completion. Because we are extensively networked in the design and engineering community, we can choose the right professionals to help you achieve your goals.

BUILT FOR GROWTH CAMPAIGN
Built for Growth is a full-circle moment, paying tribute to the first campaign we ran in 2020, Built on Character. It celebrates our perseverance over the past five years. It not only revisits the essence of “character,” which is fundamental to Merit, but also introduces the element of growth. It communicates that growth is intrinsic to who we are – adaptable, changeable, evolutionary, and innovative. We are built to last and are on a trajectory of steady, sustainable growth. We are constantly growing in various forms.
