Chasing Excellence While Building Character

At Merit, we build everything on character and are always pursing excellence. We are dedicated to building a workplace that rewards and recognizes our employees for their loyal contribution and are always looking for ways to support the growth of individuals and our company as a whole, in order to serve our clients with the best care possible. We recently ran an internal campaign titled "Chasing Excellence." Both independently, and as a team, we dove into what excellence meant to us, and how to pursue it every day in our work. Each person set three goals that embodied this idea, and set out with a 30-day calendar to meet those goals each day for the entire month.

As a team, we came together on our weekly meetings and watched speakers talk about their experiences and what chasing excellence meant to them in their work, and their lives. We broke out into groups to go over the subjects, and came together to discuss a few focus questions, and how to apply the concepts to life at Merit.

To commemorate this time, we designed a sticker with the "Chasing Excellence" moto, alongside Merit's established date of 1957. You don't stay in business for 60+ years without growth, and a continued commitment towards excellence.

In addition to our campaign, we were able to launch another internal project that has been in the works for some time, our character coins. We pride ourselves on being built on character, and we wanted to be able to highlight individuals we work with when they exemplify all of the attributes Merit strives to be. Whether they are a team member, sub-contractor, part of the design team or otherwise, we wanted to honor those with extraordinary character.

The coins read: "This character coin has been awarded for the continuous demonstration of integrity, honesty, courage, loyalty, and other virtues that promote excellence. Character is the foundation upon which Merit Construction is built." Look out for shared stories in the future of individuals receiving our coins.
