Merit Construction completed 12,800 SF of new retail space at Joint Base Lewis McChord for The Seattle Lighthouse for the Blind. Merit coordinated with the owner and a representative of JBLM to meet their needs and comply with the base’s code requirements. This project included a pre-engineered metal building with a loading dock area for central receiving and distribution, an employee lounge and several private offices. The building’s interior colors and materials, including at the point of sales check out stations, were selected with the needs of the visually impaired employees in mind.

Our building is located on Joint Base Lewis McChord, which understandably added extra requirements to permit processing, jobsite access, and building codes. We found (Project Manager) Neil Shaw and (Superintendent) Larry Oathout to be ready and willing to take the lead, ensuring that Seattle Lighthouse, Merit Construction and all subcontractors came into compliance with these additional, yet necessary, requirements. Their leadership gave us confidence in the overall integrity of our building project. I would welcome the opportunity to work with the Merit team in the future.
