TwinStar Credit Union, Tumwater
The TwinStar Credit Union located within the TwinStar Plaza in Tumwater, WA, is a 3,750 SF building that was built in 2004. Although the original construction was completed by a different company, Merit’s relationship from past projects with TwinStar gave them the opportunity to be contracted to investigate and repair water damage that had occurred over several years on the Southeast side of the building. Several attempts had been made to stop the water intrusion, without making major structural repairs, by the building maintenance team, but the attempts were unsuccessful. Merit removed the water damaged areas on the building store front and cafeteria area at the main entrance. Rotten framing, sheathing, insulation, and drywall were removed, and walls were rebuilt. All windows were removed from the front of the building, and the flashing and hollow metal window frames were repaired, and the flashing was replaced. The buildings siding was replaced with NewTechWood siding above the buildings brick half walls, and the coping, scupper boxes and downspouts were all replaced. Electrical improvements were made inside the building to improve data connections, increase electrical outlets, and for adding additional lighting. This project highlighted Merit’s ability to make difficult framing modification and repairs that minimize the impact of construction on an operating business as well as showcased Merit’s quality finish carpentry skills.
